Shedding
The City of Boroondara, in conjunction with Rotary Club of North Balwyn, has opened a men's shed, and it’s not just any old shed, it’s the Gucci of sheds. Situated next door to the North Balwyn Bowling Club, the shed will be a meeting place for men. The objectives are to advance the health and well-being of members by providing a safe, happy environment where skilled and unskilled men can pursue hobbies, pastimes and interests, learn new skills or practice and pass on old skills and learn about health and well-being.
Research shows that social and emotional wellbeing affects a person’s health. Men notoriously lack the skill to reach out when it comes to their social, physical and spiritual health. This is where the men’s shed movement comes in. It began in Australia in the 90s and has been a huge success around the world because it provides a place for men to connect. Men who may have become socially isolated through divorce, the death of a spouse, ill-health or retirement. The Men’s Shed is a community extension of the backyard shed.
Hours of operation:
Monday, Thursday and Friday, 9.30 - 1.30 pm
Closed on Public holidays and for a few weeks over the Christmas and new year period.
About our shed
Most people who think of a men's shed think of carpentry. We'll be doing our fair share of woodworking, however, our intentions are to embrace a broad range of activities, such as computer skills, cooking, men's health forums, and fellowship events.
The main thing is that people are meeting each week and having a creative, social and enjoyable experience.
